Second Meeting: Meeting Minutes & Subcommittees

Assalamu-alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh,

I have entered both the subcommittees and meeting minutes from last Sunday's meeting, so please take a look below! Note that the subcommittees are flexible, and although one may be assigned to a certain committee, she is not restricted to it.

Our new meeting date is the first Sunday of every moth (for the committee as a whole) and subcommittees will be meeting as often as they need, inshaAllah. Please feel free to comment, and if you would like to be added to a certain committee (or taken out), please speak up!

MCA Sisters Committee Meeting Minutes
Date: Sunday, February 6 & 13, 3:30-5 PM, 2011
Place: MCA, Sisters Area

The points of discussion and decisions are following:

1. Communication:  There was a consensus on the need to improve communication among members of our community.
·         A MCA Sisters Blog and Googles list was created to share documents and increase communication.  We request EC to approve the linking of these pages through a sister’s committee link from MCA web page.  Sister’s communication group will contact MCA webmaster to help us achieve this goal.

·         We do not have access to internet from our area.  Is it possible to establish a separate line for internet connections without accessing MCA’s secured internet?  We sisters are willing to pay for monthly cost of the line.

·         We need access to a vacuum cleaner (often rooms are left dirty with foods on carpet).  We would like to clean it up right away. Is it possible to arrange a place for storing kitchen key so that sisters can access it if they need it?

·         We need a bulletin board dedicated for “sister’s committee information” on sisters’ side.  We believe this will help those who prefer to get visual information while attending various events at the Masjid.

·         We agreed that we need to make sisters entry side more welcoming, informative for Non-Muslim visitors.  Several of us having request from Non-Muslim women who wants to learn about Islam and Muslims.

·         The copies of Quran are not in good shape on our side, children and adults are using them without due respect and care.  We would like to create a Islamic library corner with
Qurans, Hadith, learning materials introducing Aqeedah, shahadah, pillars of Islam, How to pray, when and how to fast, loving our Prophet Muhammad (SAS) etc.

·   We need signs on sisters side with Masjid Adaab (manners) printed in Arabic and English.

  1. We formed 3 Subgroups under sisters committee, matching skills and interest of volunteers.  These teams will be project oriented and focus on attainable goals and implement those goals following approval from Executive Committee. The subgroups will conduct their own meetings and shall meet for monthly all groups meeting on 1st Sunday of each month.
    • Dawah / Religious team: This team will focus on meeting the need of sisters requesting to learn about Islam and Muslim Women. We believe that believing, righteous, wise and strong Muslim women should be examples to both Muslim and Non-Muslims in our community. There is a demand for Sisters Halaqah
(starting from basics of Islam) as many new sisters in Islam and born Muslim sisters need opportunities to learn and grow their Iman.  Introduce an Islamic book borrowing program.

    • Social Service/Hospitality: Childrens and girls program, creative baby sitting ideas should be planned ahead (at-least 2-3 months).  There are many suggestions for sisters programs; the team will be responsible for organizing these events with approval from EC.

    • Education / Tutorial program team:  This team will study other successful national tutorial programs, start developing a sound proposal, and explore opportunities for writing grant applications.

First Meeting Overview

Assalamu-alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh,

The MCA Sisters' Committee held its first meeting on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011. We had a turnout of about 25 sisters, a bunch of great ideas, and a lot of exuberant energy, mashaAllah!  The committees' first goals are to strengthen our means of communication within the community and to distribute tasks between subcommittees (which are in the process of being formed). Currently, we have a "skills" sheet going around that will allow us to make this process easier; this way, we know who is willing to volunteer for which areas, and what peoples' strengths are. This blog will be used to provide updates on our progress, discussions, feedback, and more, so please make sure to visit often!
